Whilst pupating as a youngster, I was drawn in to the vibrant world of Star Wars (never really meshed with Star Trek but that’s another story) and the wonderful visuals brought about by the works of great men and women like Ralph McQuarrie whose work inspired the original films. In attempt to write my own science-fiction, I drew heavily upon the emotions I felt whilst watching films like ‘The Empire Strikes Back‘ for the first time. However, it became harder and harder to picture a world so divorced from our own without a little help. Thus I started sketching what I imagined my characters to be going through, what they looked like, how things that started as simple aesthetic playing-around might actually have some greater bearing on their character and motivations.

I’ll not win any awards for this work, but it might help lend perspective to the writing.
